First bird we saw was a Northern Waterthrush, on the far side of the creek at the waters edge. It was bobbing its tail and pecking at the mud. It was very colorful with some golden yellow on its upper flanks. It was a life bird for both of us. This is before the bathrooms near the parking lot. We didn't see it on the way out, but did find a beautiful Paper Wasp nest in a tree over the creek. We saw many Western Tanagers and Black headed Grosbeaks in the meadow area and on the other side of the creek. Much to my dismay we found a Killdeer with some fishing line tightly wound around its foot. I called several agencies which said they couldn't help unless the bird was confined or couldn't fly. A friend who is a rescuer is going to attempt to catch it this afternoon. I seem to have a knack for finding this sort of thing.
