We also had at least one juvenile SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER (one sighting in the morning and one at about 12:30 PM) in New Chicago Marsh just west of the EEC boardwalk. At times there were good numbers of (15-20) juvenile WESTERN SANDPIPERS in this same area. Nothing special in Salt Pond A16 (all 4 adult BLACK SKIMMERS were flying together at one point, a single BONAPARTE'S GULL and a poorly seen DUNLIN). No sign of the juvenile Black Skimmer or the Ruddy Turnstones. At about 11:30 we spotted the male RUFF toward the center of the marsh (100 yds northeast of the railroad tracks and 100 yds past the first pond on the right from the EEC entrance road). The Ruff no longer has the black spots on the side of the chest, the legs are still looking pinkish-yellow but it retains a couple alternate greater coverts. At one point while waiting for the Ruff to emerge from behind a patch of pickleweed I caught a quick glimpse of what seemed to be another Ruff entering into the same area of pickleweed, sometime later Frank also saw what he thought was a second Ruff very near the male. However, thirty minutes plus of continuous viewing failed to produce the second Ruff (the male was almost continually in view). Earlier we had been unable to find the Reeve from the southern dike of Salt Pond A16. Take care, Bob Reiling _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
