Folks:

A number of recent posts have commented on arrival and departure dates and 
inquired whether they were typical.  A useful resource that is a first step 
in answering these questions is the Santa Clara County check list that is 
on the SCVAS site as a PDF file 
<http://www.scvas.org/pdfs/checklist.pdf>  It is a fairly large file so it 
is probably best to download it once for your reference.  The dates 
indicated by the bar graphs are quite accurate, so that with a scale you 
can determine the actual day of the month.  However, the source information 
is not always the best.  Rarities are generally well documented, but the 
temporal behavior of common or fairly common species is more difficult to 
obtain and is often based on sketchy records.
