I stopped after work today and found three GBHE nests with a total of at least 7 large chicks. This is in an area called River Oaks Park along Coyote Creek. To get there take Montague Expressway north, turn left on River Oaks Parkway. Drive past Cadence and turn right into the Milbrook residential development. Snake your way through the development to the levee trail at the end of Ovation Court. Nests are easily visible from the levee on the open leafless branches of some tall trees. Other birds included RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, BELTED KINGFISHER, BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and WESTERN TANAGER. A GREAT EGRET perched high up near the GBHE nests, but I couldn't locate a nest.
