The bird was foraging alongside the Western Sandpipers, but at the same time stood out and was not in sync with them. Since it was very close to the dike as you enter from the Terminal Way parking lot, I could observe it carefully in my scope. When suddenly the birds flushed in a large commotion, I looked up to see a Gull swoop down and grab an an Avocet chick. Unfazed by the pursuing Avocets, the Gull went on to gobble the chick in mid-air.
