I walked up Alec Canyon Trail and about 60 yards past the intersection with the trail to the Triple Falls I heard the slow loud hammering of what I feel may have been a Pileated Woodpecker. There were three series of "pecks" With a rather long pause between them. They seemed to be quite close to me and coming from the up hill side of the trail. The up hill bank was well over my head and the foliage on the hill was quite dense so I didn't have a good view of the hillside and was not able to see the source of the "pecking". I stayed for about a half hour but did not hear or see anything further. I've not heard a Pileated Woodpecker before so I can't be positive but from what I've been told and read what I heard had the characteristics of one. Any thoughts?
