We had a fun morning at Lake Cunningham. Highlights were zillions of Cliff Swallows and up-close-and-personnal views of Barn Swallows. Frank Vanslager spotted the Great-tailed Grackle. The Double-crested Cormorants were displaying their crests. We got some great views of white crests and breeding colors through the scopes. Blue eyes! The Great and Snowy Egrets and Black-crowned Night Herons are nesting on one of islands on the east side of the lake. We saw 2 Night-heron chicks in the shrubs behind Mama. They have green legs! A few Common Mergansers in the creek and later in the lake (same ones??). Here is the list of birds we saw (38 total): American Coot American Crow American Kestral American Robin Anna's Hummingbird Black Phoebe Blackbird, Brewers Blackbird, Red-winged Brown-headed Cowbird Bushtit Common Merganser Common Yellowthroat (voice) Double-crested Cormorant Downy Woodpecker Egret, Great Egret, Snowy Gadwall Great-tailed Grackle Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Great Blue Heron, Green House Finch Kildeer Lesser Goldfinch Mallard Mockingbird Mourning Dove Pelican, White Pied-billed Grebe Red-tailed Hawk Ruddy Duck Sparrow, House Sparrow, Song Sparrow, White-crowned Swallow, Barn Swallow, Cliff Tern, Forresters Turkey Vulture Yellow-rumped Warbler --Summer Brasuel _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
