I was invited to see a Bewick's Wren nest at a
friend's home in Saratoga.  It was unique in that it
had been constructed in the top of a Drill Press!  The
opening through the crack between the lid and the
machine was so small, it was hard to believe such a
large nest could have been built there.

The drill press is in a workshop and the owner opens
the door each morning around 5:30 to let the bird out.
Then, of course, closes it in the evening.  There were
five eggs laid and at least three had hatched when I
was there.  I took a picture of the nestlings and
could only see one egg remaining, so there could have
been another young one which was not obvious in the
picture.

Both parents were obviously feeding the babies.
