Struck out on two, got two. But lovely to be out. a. 2 Ruffs - saw them both from the railroad track near EEC. There were quite close to the track, moving quickly through the pickleweed b. 1 Burrowing Owl -- on the other side of the railroad tracks, closer to the road c. 0 Barn Owl -- no sign of adult or young in the box or around (they were probably right in front of me in the tree despite lots of looking) d. 0 Blue-winged Teal, Sunnyvale Baylands -- no sign of these in any of the wetlands area but 1 Cinnamon Teal male kept appearing and disappearing right under my nose in low pickleweed. There were also pairs of Gadwall and American Wigeons here. Also seen: - Northern-rough Winged Swallows, 2 at the intersection of Gold & 237 (continuing) - Western Grebe in the very empty pond off the Alviso Marina (except for a 30+ flock of California Gulls) - Adult Herring Gull -- Alviso Marino flat pond between levee and rail road tracks - 3 American White Pelicans -- pond to the right of 237 when driving from Alviso to Sunnyvale, plus 2 more flew in later, over the Sunnyvale Baylands - Juvenile (brown) Cooper's or Sharp-shinned Hawk at near State and Spreckles (seen from Alviso marina) (likely Cooper's due to locale and season?) Good birding, Kris Olson Menlo Park, CA _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
