All,

An apparent juvenile Ruff was seen actively foraging and loosely
associating with dowitchers in the first pond on the right just
beyond the entrance gate to the Don Edwards NWR in Alviso today
at 1300. The bird had a dark bill, the scapulars were dark and
edged in pale buff, the breast was buffy down to the belly where
it broke into splotches and the underparts were pure white, but      
there seemed to be a fair amount of white above the eye. The legs
appeared to be dull greenish-yellow when it walked up on mud. It
was slighly larger than a dowitcher and much taller.

I walked the railroad tracks out to impoundment north of the Alviso
Marina but saw no Golden-Plover.
