I eventually turned around just a few hundred meters below Sycamore. Migrants were few. An unidentified empid got away. I found only one warbler, an ORANGE-CROWNED. WESTERN TANAGERS, however, were in good numbers with a total of 12 counted in this riparian area dominated by mature cottonwoods with an understory of walnut, willow, and elderberries. A female BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was late. A SOOTY FOX SPARROW was the first I've seen this fall. A good morning, all-in-all, when you consider I saw six times as many Western Tanagers as European Starlings!
