I didn't bird down to the only settling pond holding water, but at the intersection of the levee and the second road (the one separating the first and second ponds) a mixed flock primarily composed of Bushtits contained two Orange-crowned Warblers. As they fed through dry stalks of thistle, hemlock and anise, a Downy Woodpecker joined them, tapping at the dry stalks. The crowned sparrows observed downstream of the Bloomfield bridge earlier this week were not seen. A single Say's Phoebe was hawking insects from along the levee.
