Very brief (20 min.) stop at Llagas Creek, upstream of the Bloomfield Bridge
in southern Santa Clara County around 9 a.m. today turned up two Wilson's
Snipe flying into the northern edge of the tomato field west of the creek
levee.  I didn't bird down to the only settling pond holding water, but at
the intersection of the levee and the second road (the one separating the
first and second ponds) a mixed flock primarily composed of Bushtits
contained two Orange-crowned Warblers.  As they fed through dry stalks of
thistle, hemlock and anise, a Downy Woodpecker joined them, tapping at the
dry stalks.  The crowned sparrows observed downstream of the Bloomfield
bridge earlier this week were not seen.  A single Say's Phoebe was hawking
insects from along the levee.
