The eucalyptus near the banding trailer had 8-10 YELLOW WARBLERS and 2 WILSON'S WARBLERS. A fair number of PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS were around as well. I could hear a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK and a couple SWAINSON'S THRUSHES along the creek. After running into Mike Rogers, we both headed over to the EEC in Alviso. It was pretty dead here as far as migrants go, but we had 3 VAUX'S SWIFTS and 2 WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS overhead. State and Spreckles was a washout, as was the swallow flock near the cannery building. I left Mike and headed for the Sunnyvale sewage ponds. Here I had a COMMON TERN loafing on the central levee with a number of FORSTER'S TERNS and RING-BILLED GULLS. This bird looked like one of those subadult types, with the tertials having brownish centers. The rear crown and nape was solid black, as was the bill. It had a darkish carpal bar and black outer edge to the tail. The legs had some reddish tones, but were darker, and shorter, than the Forster's nearby. A scattering of RED-NECKED PHALAROPES on the pond had a few WILSON'S included. A SORA was foraging under the "willows" near the radar station. Back at the parking lot a young AMERICAN GOLDFINCH was begging from an adult, but I didn't see any feeding.
