The head showed no abnormal characteristics with only a slight lightening of the forehead. This is also bolstered by the fact that even though Sibley indicates that male Eurasian and male American Wigeons should be in alternate plumage at this time that I did note yesterday that many male American Wigeons were in eclipse or partial eclipse plumage. Bob, At this time of year many Eurasian Wigeons may be in eclipse plumage, in which they will show much rusty coloration on the sides, or a mixture of rust and gray, and be generally drabber than they would be in alternate.
