It twice plucked a small frog from the edge of the reeds, took it up into the grasses, stabbed, flicked, and eventually swallowed it. I have seen Rails consistently over the past three weeks about this time and location. Also seen were two Burrowing Owls first in the pole field then perching on the bench to the north of the trail, facing the airport. One of these looked like an adolescent, slightly smaller and less distinctly patterned. It did not hunt as actively as the adult, which was observed jumping up and down on an unidentified item. A silhouette the size and shape of a Great Horned Owl was seem perching on a lamp post as I crossed over the Embarcadero overpass at Hwy. 101. I circled back and took another look. It was fairly dark by them but still looked like this amazing creature. Two Dunlin were seem feeding among the Dowitchers.
