Apparently there is a some kind of reclamation project going on which for us birders affects the south and east ponds near the model airplane park. I was checking the east pond for bitterns (no bittern, but found a VIRGINIA RAIL), and as I was leaving someone was posting a sign about "no entry", and I was told to leave. I'm not sure what is going here, but there is a lot of grading, paving, etc. Until things sort themselves out, I think we birders should consider these particular ponds as "off limits" for now for safety sake. The north ponds and the ponds near the entry road are still OK. And like Matthew's report, a good variety of ducks was seen. I missed the Merlin, but did see an OSPREY on the north pond. (In the past, I've also seen American Bittern on the north pond, although not as reliable as on the east pond.)
