The count circle is centered near Stanford University, so four of the eight regions are actually in San Mateo County. Therefore, birders from the south bay as well as San Mateo County (or anywhere) are welcome and encouraged to participate in this count. If you have taken part in as many CBC's as some of us have, then you know how much fun they can be (in ANY kind of weather). If this might be your first event, then you are in for a good time. Birders of ALL levels are welcome, as more eyes and more ears equal more area covered and more birds counted. The Regional Coordinators are currently recruiting counters as well, but if you are not assigned and/or are new to the count, let me know and I will direct you to a region where you are most needed. Or, if you have a preference for a particular habitat or area, I can find a spot for you there as well. Mike Rogers as usual will head our Rare Bird Committee; Al Eisner will be our Count Compiler, and Ruth and Gene Troetschler have once again graciously offered their home for our countdown dinner. There is a $5 fee to participate in the count, and a like amount will be collected by those who attend the dinner to offset the costs. Your region leader will have the time and directions to the Troetschler's. We are all looking forward to another successful count, continuing a national tradition that this year will be 104 years old. Last year we recorded 65,467 birds of 157 species. I know we can top those totals this year, especially with your help. So e-mail me or call at 408-996-0434 and I will put you in touch with a region leader, and then get ready for a great day of birding!
