The rain forced a flock of 9 VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS down low; the birds were present in the area for a couple of hours, being south of the trailer when I left. Many YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were taking advantage of the lull in the rain - with them I found 2 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS. Later, up at the waterbird pond, I found a late YELLOW WARBLER and a gray-headed ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER. Scott Terrill found a fourth ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER on our way back to the trailer. Numerous FOX SPARROWS were at several locations, including several singing birds. Birds of note from the banding board include a late Willow Flycatcher on 10/1, 2 "Western" Flycatchers on 10/12, a recaptured Ash-throated Flycatcher on 10/18 (same as 9/24 capture?), numerous Winter Wrens, a late Swainson's Thrush on 10/15, and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher on 10/26. This morning 11/10/03, I stopped by the Shoreline Lake boathouse quickly on the way to work. The orange-billed female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE provided nice views directly off the boathouse. Her bill seems to be brightening up a bit. Also of note was a MARBLED GODWIT probing the saturated lawn here.
