This morning at 9AM I found a single, juvenile FERRUGINOUS HAWK in a field near the south end of Calaveras Reservoir.  It was in the midst of a large grazed area with short grass, sitting on the ground.  This field was full of ground squirrels.  The Ferruginous Hawk took flight several times, always again landing on the ground.  I finally left the bird sitting on a sloping hillside at the edge of the field.
