I started at the Palo Alto duck pond, checked the pond on Geng Road (golf course), and ended up at the Flood Control basin. Duck Pond ------------- No unusual ducks other than the female Scaup that has been reported there for ages Ruddy Ducks Lots of gull action: Ring-billed, Glaucous-winged, California,Western and all those I can't identify! A male Ring-necked Pheasant joined the begging gulls and pigeons looking for a hand-out, much to the surprise of the adults and kids feeding ducks in the rain. Geng Road ------------- No Hooded Mergansers but there were 4 female COMMON GOLDENEYE (1 may be a Barrows because her shape looked different, but they kept diving and I could never get her to hold still long enough to be sure.) 3 RUDY-CROWNED KINGLETS flashed their crowns (OK, not ducks, but neat!) Palo Alto Flood Control Basin ------------------------------------ 3 pair CINNAMON TEAL, north pond (2 pair) and south pond (1 pair) 5 male BLUE-WINGED TEAL and 3 females (north pond, in two groups) GREEN-WINGED TEAL - far back pond AMERICAN WIGEON - 10-20 males in the back pond NORTHERN SHOVELERS NORTHERN PINTAIL RUDDY DUCKS 1 female BUFFLEHEAD - south pond 3 male CANVASBACKS and 2 females 10+ American Pelicans Good birding, Kris Olson Menlo Park, CA _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
