In reviewing recordings, I find to my deep chagrin that he is almost certainly correct. I am familiar with PB Grebe's kind of whinny call, but the call involving the gutteral thumping similar to Am Bittern is new to me. I HAVE flushed Bittern near this site, on private property, and early this year did note what I remain sure was Am. Bittern at Llagas, but my recent Bitterns are stealthy Grebes. Lo siento mucho, everyone. Better to admit to being a fool than to deny it and prove to everyone that one is a fool, I guess. We did hear Pied-billed Grebes and have recently learned that many birders do not know it's song. My concern is that you seem to hear multiple AMBI on all your trips while we have heard none (nor has anyone else to my knowledge). As far as I know you may be an expert on AMBI calls but I felt that I should at least pose the question, could these be Pied-billed Grebes calling rather than American Bittern?
