Smith's Creek was pretty silent, with single TOWNSEND'S and HERMIT WARBLERS, 2 singing WILSON'S WARBLERS, and 2-3 WESTERN TANAGERS. I had at least 3 singing male LAZULI BUNTINGS here and 6 more elsewhere in Grant Ranch and along Quimby Road. Twin Gates had no migrants, but I did see nest building by EUROPEAN STARLING, BULLOCK'S ORIOLE, and HOUSE FINCH and heard a singing GRASSHOPPER SPARROW. Three singing male YELLOW WARBLERS and a singing WARBLING VIREO were near the ranch house and the adjacent riparian corridor. An ACORN WOODPECKER nest with young was at the upper end of the parking lot here. The only other bird of note was a male WOOD DUCK on the pond below the road a half-mile or so above Grant Lake.
