This time I was descending the path by braille on my bike, without lights in the near darkness. The birds appeared as little more than lumps, but they were all within 30 feet from each other, and each one flushed from exactly the same distance (about 20 feet) as I approached. It was weird -- rhythmic -- with them all fluttering away in the same direction one after the other. I also saw a barn owl hunting over the pasture, mothlike and white.
