A pair of Brown-headed Cowbirds have been active in my Morgan Hill yard for 2 weeks. They sit high in the trees, at or near the top, apparently watching for nesting activity. No birds seem to pay any attention to them - except Brewer's Blackbirds. A small flock of blackbirds is in the neighborhood, and 1 or 2 of them at a time chase the cowbirds and will not let them perch in one spot for more than a few seconds. I like to see that! Last year I helplessly watched a cowbird chick follow a male Hooded Oriole around our neighborhood for days, begging constantly. So far in our yard I've found Robin, House Finch, and California Towhee nests, all seemingly fully constructed, but none have eggs yet. Maybe today on Mother's Day! Migrant activity seems to have slowed a bit lately. I still have a Rufous Hummingbird today, reluctantly sharing the hummingbird feeder with a pair of Hooded Orioles and a pair of Bullock's Orioles - and I'm surprised to see that the Rufous hummers give way to the Anna's Hummingbirds. I guess size does matter. Rick Herder Morgan Hill _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
