A male BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK visited a bare branch just outside my kitchen
window of my Los Altos home yesterday evening while I was eating dinner just
inside.  I got the closest look I have ever had of a black-headed grosbeak,
it being less than 6 feet from me, and at eye level.  After about 20
seconds, it flew onto a wire in the neighbor's yard, where I watched it
perch for about 10 seconds.  It then flew to one of my plum trees in the
front yard and I was unable to refind it.

Quite a striking bird that close up!
