Best birding was on the road beyond the Fremont Older parking lot (very birdy for the next half mile or so). "Mentionables" include YELLOW-RUMPED, ORANGE-CROWNED, TOWNSEND'S, and WILSON'S WARBLERS, HUTTON'S and WARBLING VIREOS, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, LESSER and AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES, DOWNY and NUTTAL'S WOODPECKERS, WESTERN BLUEBIRDS, WRENTIT, PURPLE FINCHES and PINE SISKINS. Along the ridge we had several BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS (one sang it's complex song to another, while both were in a small tree near us). In the Villa Maria picnic area we had a COOPER'S HAWK flying south followed shortly by a PEREGRINE FALCON which chose to catch a thermal above us. Frank hiked this same trail yesterday, both ways (no scope), with similar results except that he also had PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS but had no Pine Siskins.
