This morning I walked north from Twin Gates in Grant Ranch (Canada de Pala
and Pala Seca trails, 9 miles).  A male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE flew into the trees
near the parking lot as I walked up the hill.  The ridges, most of the walk,
had perhaps a dozen LARK SPARROWs and 10s of HORNED LARKs scattered along
the walk but only a single GRASSHOPPER SPARROW that I was able to track
down.  In Deer Valley, about 4 miles north of Twin Gates, there was a LEWIS'
WOODPECKER.
