Two Northern Rough-Winged Swallows perching on the power line overhead -- first of the year for me. One male Lawrence's Goldfinch perched on a brushpile on the Santa Clara County side of the river. Nearby, San Felipe Lake is still spilling into the upstream fields, where good numbers of waterbirds remain. Several American White Pelicans in the far distance, but it was difficult counting them at 60 mph while distracted by the growing Peterbilt logo in the rear view mirror. Best always to check the lake from eastbound 152, where pullouts allow a less distracting experience. Also nearby, Llagas Creek at Bloomfield Road has had numbers of Cliff Swallows present for the last several days.
