Best birds on Wednesday's SCVAS field trip were HOUSE WREN (at least two, one 
near the creek where we assembled, a county year bird for many), NORTHERN 
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW (almost always in view but a year bird for some), 
ALLEN'S HUMMINGBIRD (north rim trail), and RUFOUS-CROWNED SPARROW (Todd L. 
Quick loop, none on the north rim trail).  "Notables" included HERMIT THRUSH 
(at least three on and around a small, bare tree near the creek) and mating 
RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS (with a "spare" in attendance).  After most had left 
Frank Vanslager spotted an AMERICAN DIPPER flying up the creek.  We had five 
male WILD TURKEYs on the way into the park, while some saw a mostly white 
female(?).  Their calling could be heard all along the north rim trail.
