Folks:

	To add to Kendric's message about the Cooper Ornithological
Society's archives, first they also have the Pacific Coast
Avifauna series (all of Grinnell's California checklists including
the classic 1944 Grinnell and Miller, and Grinnell and Wythe 1927
directory to San Francisco Bay) and, second, the early journals are
more like North American Birds is today--they are not focussed on
detailed scientific research, but more of natural history.  If you
have time to spare, these early journals are fascinating reading.

	By the way, the Cooper Ornithological Society was formed in
San Jose by four local birders in 1893.
