A county year bird, believe it or not. Lots of bird activity in the area but the possibility of Blue Grosbeak had us on our way to the Coyote Creek Field Station (CCFS). A thorough check of the flood control basin (between Coyote Creek on the east, the entrance road dike on the west, the power lines to the south and the Banding Trailer in the north) only produced the "usual suspects." A single WHITE-THROATED SWIFT flew "swiftly" out of sight to the east. We then made a quick stop at the "Waterbird Pond" where Frank soon located two WHITE-FACED IBIS. The fact that one of the birds was much larger than the other caused some initial concern (we subsequently had great close in views of the red eyes, red facial soft parts and red legs of both birds). This pond also had 8 - 10 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and at least four FORSTER'S TERNS. I should note that the water level in the pond seems quite low to me but then this may be as is intended by those who are responsible for it's level.
