A quick search located the PIWO on a power pole on the south side of Skyline. Shortly thereafter the bird flew across Skyline to the area northwest of Page Mill Rd, directly in front of our parked cars, where it was seen and heard for several more minutes. Although very near the County line the PIWO was never seen to leave San Mateo County (none of the birders there seemed to care :-). A PIWO was later heard calling from this same general area while we were near the Ranger Facility. The remainder of the trip was fairly quite, birds just don't seem to be as numerous or as vocal as in previous years, but most of the hoped for species were seen. (Regrettably several of the good birds, including BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, CHIPPING SPARROW and BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK, were only seen by a few.) Other birds included ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER, PURPLE FINCH, HUTTON'S VIREO (heard only), WARBLING VIREO (heard only), ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, WESTERN BLUEBIRD and LAZULI BUNTING. A big miss, in lieu of the numbers recently seen passing thru the area, was Western Tanager.
