The bird's shape can be seen better and it does appear to be the elongated shape of a CALIFORNIA GULL. From this angle the flight feathers are clearly too dark for a GWGU. Unless Al feels otherwise, I guess David gets the prize for this photo quiz :) - a CALIFORNIA GULL molting into second-winter plumage.
