I found a juvenile SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, which was the only juvenile bird I could see among 300+ adult WESTERN SANDPIPERS. A couple dozen SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were also present, and both LONG-BILLED and SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were heard. A check of the banding board in the trailer showed that a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW had been caught and banded on 20 Jul 03. A stop at the EEC failed to produce any turnstones, but the pair of BLACK SKIMMERS was present with their half-grown chick. Still some large precocial FORSTER'S TERNS here as well. Lots of WILSON'S PHALAROPES and 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES. A BURROWING OWL is still staked out at the entrance gate.
