Folks:

	This morning, 7/12/2003, I walked along Guadalupe River at the edge of 
Almaden Road between Curnter and Malone.  I found three male and two female 
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRDS over this stretch.  One female continues to 
build a nest (across from 2180 Almaden) and it appears nearly complete.  I 
don't know if the nest is entirely made of "cotton" from the local 
cottonwoods, but certainly the outside is entirely covered with the creamy 
white portion of the seeds.

	I stopped at San Tomas Aquino Creek above Mission College Boulevard and 
found the immature PACIFIC LOON pulled out on the west bank about 50 m 
downstream of the pedestrian bridge.  The loon looked alert, but many 
feathers are completely worn to the vanes.
