From my backyard, a large medium gray bird lifted off my neighbor's roof and drifted down toward the grassy undeveloped park area behind our home. There was no mistaking the large white rump area on the bird. I have delayed reporting it, in the hopes I would see it again. After mentioning it to a wellknown birder of this area, I was told that Harriers have been seen a little further south in the Santa Teresa hills. I have seen many Harriers during my birding, but always in marshy areas, and refused for a while to believe my own eyes on this observation.
