A consolation prize was an early staging LEAST TERN (or non-breeder). My AM. WHITE PELICAN count was 390. I then made a CCW bike tour of the Alviso Slough Trail. As ususal, all the action was on Salt Pond A9. I scanned the A9/A10 dike from the north side and counted 72 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS on nests. It wasn't clear if any of the CALIFORNIA GULLS were on nests, but I did count 102 precocial young. My AM. WHITE PELICAN count for the Alviso salt ponds (most on A9) was 428. Thus, 800+ pelican on two sets of ponds--how many are in the South Bay right now. I made a check of Salt Pond A2E on may way back to see if there were more Least Terns, but saw no sign of any.
