We fairly quickly found the first winter WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (in the usual area on the western edge of the park with the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS), VARIED THRUSH (several sightings and as many as three at time), FOX SPARROW (many), ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, TOWNSEND'S WARBLER (several), RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, BEWICK'S WREN, DARK-EYED JUNCO and a COOPER'S HAWK (to name a few). Most of our time was spent in an unsuccessful attempt to find a Hermit Warbler amongst the hundreds of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. Unusual sightings included an adult male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE (western edge of the park) and a male hybrid REDxYELLOW-SHAFTED NORTHERN FLICKER (had a red mustache, a red "V" shaped mark on the nape of the neck as well as reddish underwing and lower tail).
