It was interesting to watch how hard they worked at keeping up with diving EARED GREBES (each dive apparently bringing food to the surface for the phalaropes to eat). There seemed to be thousands of birds in Salt Pond A-9 but I had no intention of walking that far today. At one point a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER flew nearby and just before getting back to the parking lot an AMERICAN BITTERN flushed from the northern edge of the marina. There was nothing notable at the Don Edwards EEC but at the Stevens Creek Mitigation Pond I ran into Pete LaTourrette and we watched as a pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS made half hearted and unsuccessful passes at the sandpipers there. A walk to the mouth of Stevens Creek produced no "goodies" as it was to early (the tide was too high) and a recheck of the Mitigation Pond failed to produce the Pacific Golden-Plover :-( Take care, Bob Reiling, 3:58 PM, 1/6/03 _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
