Only at this time, this island was just a high point in the tidal mudflats. Several BARN SWALLOWs were working the air over the pumphouse. They had a rather nice song, almost warbler-like. For those of you who don't know where Pond A1 is (I referred to it in my post about the Short-eared Owl), it's the large pond between Charleston Slough and Mtn. View's Shoreline Park, north of the Mtn. View (aka Coast Casey) Forebay. This pond has several hunting blinds at the north end. For a numbered reference and explanation of the salt pond system, see the maps prepared by Bill Bousman on Kendric Smith's South Bay Birders Unlimited website: Use the leftside navigation link "Maps of the Area".
