I saw a small Hawk high in the first tree at the amphitheater end of the Baylands Trail. I am unsure of exactly what species I saw and hope that someone else saw it in the amphitheater area this morning and can help. The Hawk was mostly dark with vertical dark lines on a whitish breast. The area at the base of the upper bill appeared light in color. There was a somewhat lighter eyebrow line and the top of the head appeared dark. The tail was rather short, dark in color and rounded at the end. The folded wings did not reach the end of the tail. The back and wings were dark in color. The bird was about ten inches long or perhaps a bit smaller. Initially, I thought it was a Sharp-shinned Hawk but the tail was very short, I think too short for a Sharp-shinned Hawk. I would appreciate any help anyone on SBB can offer. Rosalie Strait _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
