Calero Reservoir, Feb 14: The adult BALD EAGLE was seen this morning at its usual perch on the west side of the reservoir. It appeared to be eating prey. 22 aechmorphus grebes were bunched together on the east side; I was able to pick out 6 WESTERN GREBES and 4 CLARK'S GREBES; the rest stayed scrunched up with heads and necks resting against their backs. Except for Mallards, all other ducks seen were diving ducks - COMMON GOLDENEYE, BUFFLEHEAD, LESSER SCAUP, RUDDY DUCK, and 19 COMMON MERGANSERS. Also seen were 50 WILD TURKEYS pecking away around the horse corral. A GOLDEN EAGLE is on nest on the transmission tower along McKean Rd near Schillinsburg Ave. A second Golden Eagle was nearby perched on a hillside telephone pole. Almaden Reservoir, Feb 11: 36 WOOD DUCKS and 6 COMMON MERGANSERS. Stevens Creek Canyon Rd, Feb 10: Two AMERICAN DIPPERS were seen by the third bridge. I followed their course as they headed downstream. They zipped under the second bridge and then stopped at the first bridge by the Cooley Picnic Area to bathe, forage, and bounce. After a few minutes they headed back upstream again along the rocky corridor. Alviso EEC, Feb 12: A BARN OWL was in the nest box located in a sycamore by the levee trail. Also saw six GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE by the pond at the intersection of State and Los Esteros Rd (as reported by others). That's it for now - Ann Verdi _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
