After being in NY for six weeks I wanted to check out the rookery at Vasona. I am happy to say that two Great Blue Herons nests are occupied with a single mature adult in each nest. One sitting on the nest and one standing over the nest. The one standing could mean babies in the bottom.....I will bring my scope tomorrow and check it out. I counted six other Great Blue Herons feeding near by. The resident pair of Red-shouldered Hawks were flying about calling. 8 Black-crowned Night Heron were counted. A pair of Canvasbacks were also swimming in Vasona The water level of Vasona was quite low. Los Gatos Creek that runs into it was also low and had many new sand bars. Okay, yesterday's quick stop at Oka Ponds (starting my year list in Feb!) yielded a Red-breasted Sapsucker, Nuttall's, Yellow-rump Warblers, Bushtits, Hooded Mergansers, Ring-necked Ducks, Lesser Scaup (and one Greater Scaup?), Bufflehead, Ruddy Ducks, Gadwalls, Black Phoebes, Rock and Mourning Doves, Double-crested Cormorants, Coots, Pied-billed Grebes, Gold and White Crowned Sparrows, Song Sparrows, a beautiful Osprey, two Red-tailed Hawks, Cedar Waxwings, Crows, Starlings and House Finch. Wishing you all a great birding week ahead. My best regards, Linda Sullivan _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
