The tide today was higher at its peak than it was yesterday. By 11:45 the water was starting to pour over the levee, and when I left at 12:30, the water was gushing over in a waterfall from the gate (at rail corner) to half-way to the LE Center. (At the wooden marker that reads 28 C S in the corner of the marsh, the water level was completely covering the C and the S, and was only an inch below the 28!) The Black Rail at the Baylands gave quite a show--at one point he popped out into a little clearing and just froze! That's when I got a good look at all the field marks...white specking, gorgeous chestnut nape, and the glistening red eye!! I was amazed at how small the bird is (it was my first Black Rail!!) He appeared about the same time as yesterday, 11:15ish, and took about the same route as yesterday, too: He came up halfway between "rail corner" and the bench at the Harriet Mundy Marsh sign, and traveled towards the bench dashing and making short flights. Special thanks to Mike M. for pointing him out!! Happy Holidays all! Kim Blythe Santa Clara _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
