I have nectar feeders frequented by hummers, chickadees, and titmice. A thistle feeder serves lesser goldfinches and house finches. I put millet and sunflower mix out for the rest of the birds, which I divide between the deck railing and the driveway. The seeds on the driveway attracts about a dozen mourning doves and as much as 50 quail. Other locals include juncoes, spotted towhees, California towhees, jays and a California thrasher pair. I'll be moving down the road, about 3/4 mile away. The old place is likely to sit empty indefinitely. Any advice on how I can help the birds survive the loss of this local food source? Wean them slowly or fatten them up? Does anyone know how far this covey of quail is likely to forage? What are the chances I'll see the same birds at my new residence? There's lots of chaparral and oak woodland with a smattering of meadow between the two places. Also healthy coyote and bobcat populations within. Thanks, Patty Ciesla Page Mill Road at Foothills Park Los Altos Hills _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
