Out the railroad tracks at New Chicago Marsh I found an immature RUFF, possibly the young male that was here earlier in the year (count week bird for San Jose). At least 1 BURROWING OWL was on the mound east of the tracks on the way out. Arzino Ranch had little in the way of interesting birds - some LONG-BILLED CURLEWS, WESTERN MEADOWLARKS, and AMERICAN PIPITS foraging. Salt pond A8 had at least a dozen SANDERLINGS, but I'm sure there were probably many more I couldn't see at the distance I was scoping (count week bird for San Jose). The SAGE THRASHER was still at the Sunnyvale Sewage Ponds former landfill (count week bird for Palo Alto), and 2 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were in the fennel patch next to the Yahoo parking garage (count week birds for Palo Alto). Finally, I had an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER outside work in Santa Clara (count week bird for San Jose).
