I was not totally sure of my ID yesterday, but today I had a second chance to observe the bird. I could see the folded wing length which was just short of the length of the tail. I believe this bird is a female. It does have the light eyebrow line of the Taiga race as shown in Sibley. Overall, it is not as dark as the Pacific race as shown in Sibley. I watched two NORTHERN HARRIERS, a male and a female, interacting in the air this afternoon. They flew very close together several times almost directly above me, then flew off in different directions. Other birds in the park today included two WHITE-TAILED KITES, both hunting in rather close proximity. I saw one LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, one SAY'S PHOEBE and one AMERICAN KESTREL. A single GREAT EGRET was hunting in the large fenced field. Rosalie Strait _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
