Folks:

Today, 12/3/2003, after checking the uncovering of the mud flats at the 
mouth of Stevens Creek I stopped at the footbridge over the creek near the 
Stevens Creek Tidal Marsh.  From that viewpoint I could count 135 
Green-winged Teal.  Quite a few of these appeared to be 1st-winter males, 
molting into their breeding plumage.  These birds were quite patchy and 
some had almost adult head coloring with only a faint vertical 
bar.  However, a male EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL a whitish scapular bar and 
had no vertical bar.  The pale outline to the facial pattern was not as 
bold as I've noticed on some birds in the past.
