The RUFF continues in New Chicago Marsh in Alviso, CA
as previously reported by others.
I saw it well today from 6:30 PM to 7 PM.
The bird was in the first pond to the right as you
walk along the railroad tracks, about 75 yards
from the access road to the 
Don Edwards NWR Environmental Education Center.

The bill is mostly black with a pale yellow base.
It is not as short and decurved as shown in the
National Geographic guide.
The long bright orange legs, bobbing when alarmed,
rough long feathers hanging down the sides, 
black-blotches on the breast, white under-belly,
and barred tail were clearly visible in 
the excellent light as it fed, preened, and flapped
its wings.
I also saw the white upper-tail/rump pattern as
the bird flew away to the center of the marsh.
