I wonder if folks have any reactions to this gull, which I photoed last
mid-January at Palo Alto Baylands, and marked it then as a first-winter
Ring-billed. As I recall it was standing near some adult Ring-billed, and
presumably didn't look way out of line with them size-wise.  It's the only
picture I have of this particular bird.

Now it doesn't look right for what I called it, not enough adult scapulars,
and not the strong dark markings on the coverts. First winter California
instead? Do they get that many gray scapulars? Grant's #476 looks about
like this bird. I also thought about second winter Herring. Any help
welcome.
